myDermPath 1.2
Welcome to myDermPath, your most comprehensiveresource for dermatology and dermatopathology. We have developed auser-friendly and interactive application for both learning andpractice of dermatology and dermatopathology. Hopefully you willenjoy using the application as much as we enjoyed developing it.Overview:The architecture of the application keeps the data and imagecontent separate from application itself. Images are stored on asecured website allowing a faster down load speed andadditions/changes to images in future upgrades. The algorithm datais stored on the application itself but is refreshed if there isinternet connection. This will allow you to browse algorithm dataeven in the absence of an internet connection; however images areonly available with an internet connection.myDermPath Algorithm:This section has the entire subject content of dermatopathology inan algorithmic fashion. Nearly every entity has been included, bothcommon and rare. The algorithm progresses by asking a series ofquestions about the histologic findings from one page to anotherwith each click, but there is a button at the bottom of the page(Bread crumbs) to show all the steps on one page. Once you reach adiagnosis, the histological features of the entity and ahistological image are shown. The images can be enlarged to fullscreen and with a drag of the fingers can be enlarged further. TheShow annotations button will highlight the salient key features foreach entity. For clinico-pathological correlation, clinicalfeatures of each entity are provided along with a clinical image.Differential diagnoses are included and one can jump directly tothe differential diagnosis by a single click. Management providesWork-up Considerations and treatment for each entity. Triviaincludes any mutations, drug interactions, etc. that may beassociated with the entity and are commonly asked on exams. You canconnect to the cloud and view a virtual slide by clicking thedigital slide button. You can type in your own notes using thekey-MyNotes. The camera key lets you take and store images for eachentity. The Reference key will take you directly to PubMed with allthe references on that topic.Search by Diagnosis:Like using the index in a book, one can directly search for anentity rather than following the algorithm.Special Stains:This page contains a list of the common special stains typicallyused in dermatopathology. Once you know what you are looking for,the app can help in deciding what stains to use and also show animage as to how the stain will look.Immunohistochemistry:This section includes an extensive list of immunohistochemicalmarkers used in dermatopathology. Each immunostain has a briefdescription of where it is most useful, along with an illustrationof the stain. This section also has an algorithm that suggestsimmunomarkers through a multitude of real-life diagnostic dilemmas. There are algorithms that address commonly asked questions such aswhich immunostains to use in spindle cell neoplasms, epithelioidneoplasms or round cell neoplasms.Direct Immunofluorescence:This provides a list of the various diagnoses in whichimmunofluorescence has value. Each entity is discussed in detail, including histological and immunofluorescence findings andsupplemented with an immunofluorescence image. In addition, thereis an algorithm of the different patterns of immunofluorescence, allowing you to arrive at a diagnosis based on the answer topatterns visualized.Normal Skin Histology:This shows the normal skin histology via an animated moviepresentation. It also includes normal hair anatomy and theultra-structural configuration of the basement membrane anddesmosomes. There is a background voice-over (Dr.Elston), throughthe entire animation. For web support, please go to mydermpath.com and for any issuesand feedback, you can send an email to [email protected]
